We're Hiring: Volunteer Coordinator for the Cobb Mt. Community Wildfire Protection Plan "Citizen Science" Initiative
Location: Cobb Mountain Area, Lake County, CA (Hybrid / Field-Based)
Position Type: Part-Time, Temporary (15-Month Grant-Funded Term)
Compensation: $35.00 per hour, with sick leave accrued at 1 hour per 30 hours worked
Schedule: Flexible "Flex-Time" model (Average 34 hours per month / ~510 hours total)
Reports to: Eliot Hurwitz, Project Manager
About the Role:
The Seigler Springs Community Redevelopment Association (SSCRA) is leading a high-priority, 24-month project to develop a Community Wildfire Protection Plan (CWPP) for the Cobb Mountain area. We are seeking a highly organized and tech-savvy Volunteer Coordinator to lead our community-based data collection effort.
This is a unique "Flex-Time" position designed to follow the natural cycles of project development. As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will manage a team of "Citizen Science" volunteers who perform Ground Truth assessments of our local forest ecology. This data is foundational to the final wildfire plan that will help protect our community for years to come.

In January 2025, SSCRA was awarded a contract from the US Forest to create a new "Community Wildfire Protection Plan" (CWPP) for our home community - the Cobb Mt. Area of Lake County, California.
14 communities and counting
SSCRA actively supports the establishment and operations of Firewise Communities throughout the Cobb Mt. Area including providing fiscal sponsorship for non-profit donations if needed. We can also consult and advise other communities on how to organize and maintain an effective firewise operation.
We work with communities of 3,000-5,000
SSCRA works with communities of 3,000-5,000 people to build comprehensive development strategies based on the Community Capitals Model of Seven connected kinds of community assets. This can include economic, cultural, infrastructural and other developmental goals.
