As part of SSCRA's development of the new Cobb Mt. Community Wildfire Protection Plan, we are training a team of 12 local residents to be "citizen science" observers of our local landscape. We have found that much of the existing state and federal data sets that describe the Cobb landscape are inaccurate and we need to gather our own intelligence on current conditions on the ground. Teams will be trained to evaluate on site "fuel models" for areas of concern, including identifying invasive species and important natural resources. Training begins on June 13 so please contact Jessyca Lytle if you are interested in participating. jessyca@sscra.org
PG&E Progress: Loch Lomond & Perini Road: Strengthening Our Community Defenses

We are excited to provide a community-wide update on our short-term PG&E Vegetation Management 2026 grant project. The Loch Lomond Road Corridor Wildfire Resilience Project was designed to harden our community’s wildfire defenses by targeting high-priority "anchor points" at both ends of the Loch Lomond Road corridor.
Perini Road: Mission Accomplished
We are pleased to announce that work at the southern end of the project is now 100% complete. Crews from Timberline Land Management performed intensive ground work and roadside clearing across key parcels on Perini Road. This effort has significantly improved line-of-sight and clearance for residents moving toward Seigler Canyon Road during an evacuation, while also safeguarding the critical PG&E infrastructure that powers our community.
Loch Lomond: The Final Stretch
At the other end of the corridor, the residents in the Loch Lomond Firewise Community continue to make excellent progress on firebreak protection. This project focuses on the maintenance and expansion of existing firebreaks to protect another 3-way intersection connecting primary ingress/egress routes.
Extreme Terrain Solutions and Prather Logging have been working expeditiously to complete the clearing operations and are fully on track to finish well before the grant performance deadline at the end of September.
Looking Forward
These combined efforts treat approximately 17.8 acres specifically located near utility assets, protecting over 20 high-voltage distribution poles. By clearing these fuels now, we are preventing "crown fires" and preserving the long-term health of our watershed.
May 2nd was National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day

REMM Firewise had a great annual meeting on May 2nd. We have chosen Wildfire Community Preparedness Day as our annual meeting day because it is the perfect time to reflect on our progress of the last year and also to plan for the upcoming fire season. As always, one of our favorite parts is to meet new neighbors and to catch up with long time friends to see what are the current needs of our community.

Gordon Springs Gordon Springs kicked off preparations for the upcoming fire season with a delicious community meal and sharing essential wildfire preparedness literature. The event was a happy success, reinforcing the strong volunteer bonds that drive our twice-a-year safety drills and keep the community wildfire-ready!

Loch Lomond Firewise Photo credit (Loch Lomond Firewise): May 2 Clean-up Day @Loch Lomond, known for their high-energy, rally-the-neighborhood workdays that bring out volunteer crowds and heavy equipment to clear fire fuels fast. |
Loch Lomond’s May 2 Cleanup Day was a massive success! About 30 volunteers, equipped with trucks, trailers, a chipper, and a masticator, collected 300 bags of yard waste from 22 properties in just 3.5 hours.
Huge thanks to Carlos Damian’s volunteer team, Robert Thomas (R2 and Company), Janice Navarra for donating a delicious lunch, and our dedicated Loch Lomond Firewise Community Team. Thank you also to the property owners who prepped their lots to make this day a home run!
